Music by Hugh Williams, lyrics by Jimmy Kennedy
"Red Sails in the Sunset" was inspired by a beautiful summer evening in Portstewart Ireland in 1935. Written by Jimmy Kennedy who had more hits in the United States than any other British songwriter until John Lennon and Paul McCartney of the Beatles arrived on the scene. In a career spanning more than fifty years, Kennedy wrote some 2000 songs of which over 200 became worldwide hits and about 50 are all-time popular classics. Beginning in the late 1940s, Nat King Cole began recording and performing more pop-oriented material for mainstream audiences, often accompanied by a string orchestra. His stature as a popular icon was cemented during this period with such hits as "The Christmas Song" (1946), "Nature Boy" (1948), "Mona Lisa" (1950), "Too Young" (the #1 song in 1951), and his signature tune "Unforgettable" (1951). ~Source Wikipedia More Nat King Cole Hits Click Here
