"Girl Happy" ©Elvis Presley

(Words & music by Pomus - Meade June 1964)

Elvis Presley's seventeenth film was the 1965 MGM movie Girl Happy, whose setting was the annual spring break festivities on the beaches of Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Elvis portrays Chicago club singer Rusty Wells, who, when not wowing the crowds, has the added task of watching over the overly exuberant daughter of his mob boss (Harold J. Stone) while she’s on vacation in Fort Lauderdale. Shelley Fabares, Presley’s favorite leading lady and a singing star in her own right (her 1962 tune Johnny Angel was a #1 hit), plays the daughter. And the lively songs include 'Do the Clam', 'Puppet on a String', the title tune and eight others. Also featured are Mary Ann Mobley and Gary Crosby.

Elvis Presley is in fine form as singer Rusty Wells, who is hired by Big Frank to watch over his daughter, Val (Shelley Fabares), while on her first girly holiday. Much mayhem ensues when heart throb Romano tries his luck with the hapless girl, and Elvis et all have to intervene.
