Indian Love Call (1952)

Slim Whitman

January 20, 1923 - June 19, 2013

Music written by Rudolf Friml
Lyrics written by Otto Harback and Oscar Hammerstein

Once known as "America's Favorite Folksinger," Slim Whitman was more famous in Europe than in the United States for the majority of his career. Best remembered for his early-'50s hit singles like "Love Song of the Waterfall," "Indian Love Call," and "Singing Hills," Whitman was an excellent yodeler known for singing mellow, romantic and clean-cut songs.

The legendary Louisiana Hayride was an influential live radio program broadcast on the 50,000-watt, clear-channel radio station KWKH in Shreveport Louisiana. The show ran weekly from 1948 to 1957, continuing on a monthly schedule into the early '80s. Beginning with Hank Williams on the debut broadcast, the show became "the cradle of the stars," helping to launch the careers of Slim Whitman, Jim Reeves, George Jones and many more. A second major boost to the show were the history-making appearances of Elvis Presley in the last months of 1954.
